Boy reading a book with hearts and other symbols around him

Congratulations to our Raleigh Road readers!  It’s time for students to get creative and come dressed as their favorite book character in celebration of surpassing 60,000 books read for our Reading Rodeo.  We are on our way to reaching our 90,000 goal, and we are celebrating each milestone along the way.  Show your school spirit and love of reading by dressing as your favorite book character on Monday, April 23rd.

Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for many families to find time for a healthy breakfast. However, US Department of Agriculture data shows that more and more students are starting their day with a nutritious breakfast in their school cafeterias. The School Breakfast Program currently serves more than 14 million students every day. Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:

  • Reach higher levels of achievement in math
  • Score higher on standardized tests
  • Have better concentration, memory, and alertness
  • Have improved attendance, behavior, and academic performance
  • Maintain a healthy weight

What you drink is as important as what you eat. Many beverages contain added sugars and often little or no nutrients, while others may provide nutrients but too much fat and too many calories. Jazz up your water by adding slices of fruit or fresh mint, rosemary, or basil. Try these Tips for Making Better Beverage Choices. For more helpful healthy tips visit wellness.ccs.k12.nc.us.
